Trevenson 1st WINNERS of the Arthur Pearce Cup 2010
02 May 2010
Arthur Pearce Cup Final ( at Illogan's Oxland Park )
Trevenson Utd. 2 .v. Halsetown 1
A game of two halves. Trevenson playing some good stuff in the 1st half and pressing our opponents all over the pitch and working hard for each other. The ball was probably in the air more than either team would of wanted and was more than likely due to nerves and blustery conditions. Trevenson attacked well down the flanks with Sam Mayou and Carl ' Stretch ' Stretton running their socks off to support Darren Copeland up top who had a thankless 1st half trying to bring players into the game. Captain Tim Kitchen was able to push on knowing that Spencer Osborn and Shaun Isaacs were sat in the middle to break play up. The attacks that Halsetown made were very direct and they were trying to utilise some pacey lads who had some good movement but the back line of Luke Letcher, Scott Grant, Luke Hart and Andrew ' Mushy ' Symons worked well to clear any danger. One effort, from a corner I think, was clawed off the line by Leigh Isaacs who yet again was impressive between the sticks for Trevenson. We were doing everything right apart from getting the ball in the net but this eventually came when Darren Copeland won the ball out wide, came inside and played in Stretch who took the ball into the box, shot, saw the ball rebound off the post ( he claims was a planned 1 - 2 ) back to him to slot home!
We talked half time about keeping it tight for the re start and to try and get some joy with the conditions in our favour. We ended up defending for large periods and were relieved to see numerous crosses into the box either get hit long or out of play. Halsetown had their tails up and were rewarded when their No.2, who was impressive throughout, was in the right place on the edge of the box to hit a shot that bounced, nutmegged someone and bounced again over the hand of the unsighted Leigh Isaacs. Real ' backs to the wall ' stuff with less than 20 minutes remaining. Halsetown kept going but, after a change, we were able to start applying pressure on them and Stretch was unlucky with an effort that went skyward and Nathan Hughes was getting some joy down the left flank. The last few minutes were on the clock when the ball ' pinballed ' around the box eventually falling to Shaun Isaacs on the edge of the box ( who swears blind he never hit it cleanly!! ) but hit it well enough for it to end up in the back of the net and bring the trophy home for the boys in red!!! GET IN!!!
